Jewels of the Isle by JAZEL LAURENO
A beautiful and scenic trip to the island of Bantayan, North of Cebu, is all worth it. Either you take a three-hour bus ride from the North Bus Terminal or a 25-minute plane trip from Mactan Cebu International Airport, this quiet little island will surely revive your senses with its cool breeze, warm people and pristine white-sand beaches |

In Bantayan island, the two frequently visited resorts are found in the quaint little town of Santa Fe -- the Santa Fe Beach Club and the Ogtong Cave Resort.
Managed by Peter and Susan Holaysan, the two idyllic get-away are perfect for that sunny and sandy frolic, not mentioning the sightful dives in the Bantayan waters, away from the buzz of the metropolis.
What started out as the Holaysan's private beach resort in 1972, became a constant refuge for family, friends and colleagues, who flock to the island every holy week to catch the lively festivities in the island. For eight years, the Holaysan couple welcomed their guests with free
accommodations and meals as part of the warm Filipino hospitality. In 1985, after years of constant renovation and development, the Santa Fe Beach Club was finally registered in the Department of Tourism (DOT) as a Family Interest Beach Resort and was the first in the island to offer quality
accommodations at reasonable prices.
Designed by Engr. Gabriel and Alma Alonzo, the resort/club has thirty well-appointed rooms which has a
spectacular view of the nearby Hilantagaan Islands and the aquamarine sea, dotted by local fishermen out in a day's work, lapping the pristine coastline. Umbrellas are placed on the beach like delicate flowers in a garden of cream-colored sand, where people can sip their tropical cocktails, chat, or simply relax.
Regular guests who have frequented the resort attest to the delectable menu the Holaysans serve. With Chef PD Tecson whipping up marvelous dishes in Chinese, Thai, or Filipino, who could resist to indulge? |

This Bantayan jewel has made its mark in the country and invites you to experience its unique way of life.
For the more discriminating traveler, however, the evocative appeal of Ogtong Cave Resort awaits them. With five cottages and fourteen rooms ranging from cozy fan cooled to air conditioned comfort, this eight-year-old resort also offers individual cottages set in carefully tended gardens with the scenic nature views beckoning them for a dip or a dive.
The moment you step on the 2.8 hectare property you are immediately greeted by the natural rhythm of nature -- sights and sounds of chirping birds in their environment. Like these feathery little friends who always return to find their nesting places atop Ogtong's trees, guests also love to come back to this sanctuary to rejuvenate themselves or to spend time with family and friends for a unique island escapade.
You can laze by the pool, or even experience the adventure of a lifetime learning to scuba dive in their newly opened Korean diving school. As the name suggests, Ogtong Cave Resort offers travelers a cool clear water swim in the cave to which it had taken its name. With a constant flow of refreshing and delightful finish to a warm and salty dip in the sea.
Domestic and foreign vacationers love to stay at Ogtong not just because of the clear seas and fine
accommodations but also of the hospitable staff who combines the natural Filipino welcome with the sophisticated pampering that tourists expect. |
